Day 8: Rest Day around Carson City
Day 7: Food
Day 6: A Surprise Rest Day
Day 5: How to Break Your Derailleur… Twice — Loomis to Pollock Pines
When my alarm sounded at 6:30 this morning, a mixture of excitement and dread filled my body. I was already awake, I’ve been waking up before my alarm every morning since the trip began. I felt anxious because today was our first day of climbing. Our itinerary forecasted 42 miles and 5,500 feet of elevation gain.
Day 4: Cali Capital
Cole here taking a shot at bloggin for Day 4 of the trip (it’s going so fast!). After card-playing the night away with our hosts Brad, Scott, and Nicole last night, we hit the road for Loomis bright and early to beat the Sacramento heat. We were lucky enough to convince Brad, a Spokes alum from last year, to join us for part of our journey, and scored some more wisdom from him on the road.
Day 3: California is flat & the Central Valley is hot
So we pedaled out of Napa on a mix of super nice bike paths & less nice highway roads. Maceo surprised us with ice cold Boba as an afternoon snack which was a much needed caffeine/sugar/ice boost. DAY 2: COWS
DAY 1: Cross Railroads Carefully
Hello, welcome to Spokes 2019. In case you are reading about us for the first time, we are a cycling team of six Stanford students biking across the country while teaching workshops throughout rural America. Our goal is to generate excitement around education in disadvantaged communities and schools by hosting “learning festivals” at schools and libraries along our route! We are so excited to have this amazing opportunity, and it can only happen with support from friends and family like you.
