I slept on a lawn chair. Well, I wasn’t the only one… So did Cole. We both slept on lawn chairs. And it was lovely. We stayed with our second Warm Showers hosts, Joan and Greg, in Carson City, Nevada. They have a lovely little cottage that sleeps three people, so Cole and I slept on lawn chairs in their backyard. Joan invited us to come to her masters swim class at 5:45 in the morning, and we considered it, but it was just a little too early. We slept in until 8:30 and ate a delicious breakfast of eggs, toast, and bacon (for the meat eaters) prepared by Joan.

After significant deliberation, we decided to drive to Horsetail Falls in Desolation Wilderness for a day hike. Anna opted to stay in town to get some work done. The rest of us drove back into the Sierras, passed Lake Tahoe and parked at the Pyramid Creek Trailhead. The landscape was beautiful: huge slabs of granite sprinkled with conifers and juniper shrubs. To top it off there’s an enormous waterfall that sends water gushing down the mountain. We found a perfect little swimming hole, submerged our bodies in the brisk water, and lounged around the rocks reading our books and napping. Travis has a knack for falling asleep in almost any location, position, or time of day.

After a few hours, we drove back to Carson City to pick up Anna and head to Reno to get Sean from the airport. We ate a fantastic meal at an Ethiopian restaurant and reunited with Sean. Back in Carson City, we took a walk to the edge of town and up a little trail into the foothills. At 10:30 pm, I crawled back into my sleeping bag atop the lawn chair. Tomorrow, we ride 60 miles to Fallon, NV.
