Hiya! This is Anna, comin’ at you from McPhearson, Kansas.
It feels weird to say that we’re in Kansas. It feels such a long way from California. But the people here are incredibly friendly. I’ve invented/adopted a riding position “The Kansas” (patent-pending) which is optimized for Kansas headwinds, straight roads, and the ability to return friendly hand waving from drivers. The only bad part about this position is that it involves putting my elbows on my handlebars (don’t worry, mom, it’s safe!!), and I now have very specific bruises there…
We had initially planned for today to be a riding day, but realized that we would be heading south and immediately back north the next day. So, being the innovative people we are (?), we changed up our route and made today a rest day. We just finished 7 straight days of biking, averaging around 70 miles per day, so we are ready for a break. Also my elbows need some rest :)
Maceo and Sean stayed home for the day, and Travis, Cole, Asia, and I went off the explore McPhearson’s Main Street. Much of it was closed for Sunday, but we managed to grab yummy sandwiches, coffees, and milkshakes. Our hosts are so incredibly kind and have a beautiful ranch - we ate a bunch of homemade bread and eggs from the chickens for breakfast, and I enjoyed my coffee sitting out between the pool and the pond.
Tomorrow, we’re teaching in Newton! We’re really excited. Also, we made a Facebook page, please like it if you are so inclined :) www.facebook.com/Stanford-Spokes-107094243962242/
