Anna and I accidentally crossed into Indiana today. Ope. This makes it 11 states for us this summer, a step up from our planned 10. I slept for a glorious 13 hours last night. In a bed I had all to myself thanks to our hosts, Tom (Stanford class of ‘59) and Norma. Had some wild dreams but snapped out of them at around 10. We had a hearty breakfast chock full of bacon, pancakes, and sunny-side up eggs. The whole shebang. We had a team meeting afterwards to discuss the plans for the day. Anna and I wanted to go check out a fudge factory about half an hour away, Maceo and Sean wanted to visit Shawnee National Forest, and Travis and Cole were pretty content with relaxing for the day. Anna and I took the car for the morning to venture to this fudge factory, which happened to be in Indiana (I had no idea we were so close to the border),
all to find out that the fudge factory was closed for the day. We settled with some ice cream from a nearby store and walked to a coffee shop opened up by two best friends. The lady (one of the two best friends) inside offered us free coffee and chocolate which really made my day. I left my water bottle there :( but it was time for us to part. We visited the post office and sent some long overdue postcards. Took a trip to Dairy Queen (Anna’s first time!) and treated ourselves to an oreo Blizzard, soft pretzels, and cheese curds. A heart healthy lunch. Anna and I had a good chat on our way back to Illinois. Back at the house, I had a teeny crisis about next quarter’s classes, what I wanted to study, and my interests, but it’s all good now. Just Monday things. Norma made us a delicious pasta and salad for dinner along with some juicy watermelons and cantelopes. The team retired early for the night so that we could have energy for the good ‘ol pedalling thing we got going.
