I will never again take beds for granted. Sleeping on a bed is a luxurious privilege. Having the space to spread out, feeling the cushion of the mattress beneath me, and knowing that the people around me are also enjoying the comfort of a bed. These are some of the things I experienced during our rest days in Greenwood Village outside of Denver.
This morning, we slept in (what a concept!) and enjoyed a delicious breakfast of waffles and fruit while watching the new-ish Hollywood remake of Jumanji. After a relaxed meal, Sean, Cole, and I packed our things to go surfing. Surfing? In Colorado? I know what you’re thinking. There’s no ocean in Colorado, where would you find waves? The answer, my dear friend, is in the river. We drove to a spot we had passed when we biked into Denver, a human-constructed rapid in the river along a scenic bike path where locals and thrill-seekers congregate to ride the river wave. Even though I’m from Santa Cruz, I’m not a huge surfer, but this was so much fun! Cole was the only one of us who actually managed to stand up on the board and ride the wave, but all three of us had a blast jumping into the wave on our stomachs, and methodically trying to stand up as the refreshing river water splashed our faces and swerved the foam board beneath us.
After a few hours of river surfing, Travis picked us up with the car and we drove to Englewood where we checked out some shops and tried to evade the heat (over 100 degrees!). Highlights include a used book store (got some new reading material woot), a store dedicated to scents: essential oils, candles, and other fragranced cosmetic products, and last but not least, a store that let us sample their kombucha.
We returned to the house, played a few games of pool (watch out, Travis is a pool shark) and got ready for dinner. The Leade family treated us to a phenomenal meal at a beautiful Italian Restaurant. We shared most of our dishes as well as lively conversation.
Thank you so much to the Leade’s!
