On our last night in DC, our team did an exercise. Without any outside help, we went through each day of the trip and recalled everything we could about that day– the ride, the host, the iconic memories. It took hours. It was shocking all that my team and I had remembered from this whole trip. From where we slept, to the food we ate that day, to a funny thing someone said, we remembered. I don't know of any other time in my life that I was able to do that. Ask me what I did 3rd week of spring quarter, I have no idea; ask me what Colby, Kansas was like, I would ask if you wanted the long or short version. It was an absolute privilege that I was able to do that.
So, in the hopes that these memories will be kept alive years from now, welcome to the sparknotes version of Stanford Spokes 2018.
There were moments of pure kindness from strangers, now friends.
Thank you to the following people and everyone else who helped us along the way or simply stopped to say hello. You made this summer such an incredible experience and we can't thank you enough.

Of course, after biking for so long, there were some slumps.

Also day 1. Maybe just a little more sleep…
A much needed rest after a trek on the Loneliest Road!

A tired Rachel crashes on a beanbag in McPherson, KS. Sleep is higher priority than reading.
Alex taking a quick nap on the road in Kentucky while Rachel (not shown) fixes a flat. We’ve truly learned to sleep on any durable surface.
But our furry friends were always there to pick us up!

Throughout the ride, there were many different places we would call home for the night.
The bed I stayed in the first night. Our fantastic Warmshowers host let us stay in his airbnb for the night.
A campground we stayed at at the end of the Sierra Nevadas. Not shown: hangry chipmunks and a beautiful stream.
A beautiful campsite next to a stunning lake that we stayed at before our trek up the Rockies
One of many city park camping sites on the Loneliest Road in America. Brian, Olivia and I swam in the community pool and I slept on a play-wagon on the playground.
Another park along Loneliest Road that we slept in
Brian, Alex, and I slept in the chapel of a church.
Another fantastic Kansas church!

Our first ever bike hostel!
Also the bike hostel!
Our first ever fire station! Thank you to the volunteer fire fighters for welcoming us into your station!
A lovely bed and breakfast we got to stay at with our incredibly host, Sherry.
After our first day in the Appalachians, it was such a relief to stay in this amazing fire station and meet the incredibly generous and kind fire fighters.
Our last stop with Francine before our spontaneous late-night ride into DC
Of course, this trip wouldn't be the same without the fantastic kids we had the pleasure of meeting at our workshops. We came to teach but left learning so much more. You guys made the trip worth it.
