Hey there,
If you’re reading this, you’ve done either one of two things, which are 1) gotten reaaaalllllly lost in a Google search. We get it, it happens! We promise we won’t tell anyone ;), or 2) You are somehow connected to a team of seven Stanford students cycling from San Francisco to Washington D.C in the name of education, and want to check in on the journey. Whichever it is, we’re glad to have you! Welcome, friends.
So, Day 1 of the Stanford Spokes journey went something like this:
9:00 am – The team (Alex, Brad, Brian, Rachel, Olivia, Vivian, and myself (Alyssa) ) met up at Alex’s dorm for breakfast and last minute packing. Originally, the plan was to take off at 10:30 am from the Oval. Oops.
10:45 am- We left Alex’s dorm to meet last year’s team members Steph and Maddi, and Barbara, Steph’s mom, at the Oval. If you’re reading this, hey guys! We love you!
When we got to the Oval, last year’s team sent us off, but not before having some great team photos taken. See below, friends.
11:00 am- We head for San Francisco, where we can take a ferry to Vallejo, and then ride to Crockett for our first night.
7:20 pm- After four hours of cycling, a lunch break, and over an hour ferry ride, we finally make it to our destination for the first night. We’re staying in a WarmShowers home tonight. Thank you Geoff!
10:30 pm- Alex, who was our driver for the day/commencement volunteer/errand runner made it to the house, with a fully packed van(= food, clean clothes, food, etc.)
11:30 pm- After having a late dinner, we debriefed on the day’s events, and planned out the route, while also rolling our muscles.
Now, my friends, it is a little past midnight. We’ve got a long journey ahead tomorrow, headed to Dixon, where we’ll be staying with Brad’s family. We’ve made it through day one in one piece, with great memories, and lots of pictures. Wish us luck, friends. We’ll keep you updated.
Much love,
Alyssa
