Day 27: Montrose to Gunnison, CO (Puja)

We awakened at approximately 6am (depending on your definition of approximately lol) and ate a delicious breakfast of waffles, party eggs, and fruit salad from our wonderful WarmShowers hosts Andy and Gina. Then the royalty took turns on the throne as we piled everyone and all of our gear into the van for the drive to where we ended our route yesterday. Adam was driving and scraped tf out of the hitch as he backed out of the gravel driveway. Oh well… the van (which we have named Vector 🌝) is still surviving for now. We got ice at Maverick and began our journey. There were two morning climbs of around ~1200ft  and ~1600ft each and both were lots of fun.

We stopped for lunch at a lake where Sasha made us some delicious turkey sandwiches and gave us M&M cookies. The rest of the ride was really chill and Gunnison was really pretty and green! There was also a storm brewing so the temperature dropped which I really appreciated but I might not be so happy about that tomorrow 😬

We ended the ride at the beautiful home of Jarral, Anne, Julian, and Lila who are all quite avid cyclists. They have a ton of cool bikes all around their house and told us about their cycling adventures including biking from Washington state to Colorado pretty recently. The burritos were delicious—in stark contrast to the Whey powder that Daniel, Nancy, and I indulged in for dessert. Okay goodnight blog!

Bonus Material: here is my ranking of the states we’ve explored so far!

  1. Colorado! the climbs were super fun and the mountains and rivers are absolutely stunning, and it’s so green that it reminds me of back home in Alabama!

  2. California; the Sierras and Tahoe were gorgeous although some of the climbs were pretty brutal

  3. Utah; the rock formations seem like they’re straight out of an alien movie

  4. Nevada; although quite interesting for the first couple of miles, I started losing my mind as the desert seemed to stretch on in every direction forever and ever
